This segment will be focusing on the broad scope of education, specifically the topic of green education and how preserving our environment is spreading beyond education in colleges and universities. Elementary and middle schools are integrating aspects of green living such as recycling, clean energy, and growing one’s own vegetables at home. Young students are being taught how the ecosystem is made up of many parts and connects into a life cycle. They’re learning the origins of the food they eat and the way in which everything in nature is connected. Providing students with a hands-on learning experience will provide for stronger retention of the information.
Introducing students to green initiatives at a young age seems to be creating new dialogue between them and the rest of their family. Students are bringing home the lessons they’re learning on recycling, composting, and clean energy and engaging with their parents to start working towards a cleaner planet. The feedback from the parents has been encouraging and supportive to continue the education on living a green life.
Learning about and living a green lifestyle is one of the most important topics in our society today. Tune into this episode from “Informed”, with your host Rob Lowe, an educational series distributed to Public Television PBS Member stations.
